well my drumlines stupid see I'm the best snare we have but my director cut it down to two snares instead of three cause we had two veterans and one of the snares hates me b/c I"m better than her and she's a year older so she thinks it should be the other way around which is incredibly sweet and then I'm not going to make tenors because I had to join try outs on the last day of try outs cause that's when our director told us we'd only have two snares and they expected me to learn everything in two hours and the director has ignored all the corps level exercises I've been playing so he'll probably try to stick me on bass

now don't get me wrong I love basses but it's just not were my passion lies and I'm no good at it and I'm not going to drag the line down and I haven't been treated fairly lately so if he tries to put me on bass I'll probably leave my drumline and the wierdest part is I'm in a drum corps and everything looks down on me so I'll still have another place to shine, even though I'm the worst in drum corps they still respect and teach me while it's opposite at my school

woo! yeah for no pauses, or commas!

I play all orchestral percussion, plus tabla, steel drums, and lots of other fun stuff. I'll be a freshman percussion performance major at UNT next year.

My motivation for playing bass my freshmen year came from watching the 2005 Cadets show "In The Zone" those guys were great that year. Totally earned that championship . . .

Every single drummer on our 11 person drumline has been on bass before. There isn't a written rule that freshmen are on bass, but it almost always turns out that way. Freshmen don't usually put up of fight about getting on bass drum because they know they will eventually be able to move up. When people play bass for 2 or more years when they want to move up, it's harder for them to stay motivated.

yea at my high school, if you join the drumline you get put on bass and if your good enough you stay on but if your not you get put in the pit. so everyone in my drumline has played bass except for one kid who joined when he was a junior and he is really good so he started on tenors but that is one exception. i have been playing bass for 2 years and im finally getting to move up to tenors cuz a senior is leaving but my two years on bass i loved. i mean my last season on bass (winter season) i was getting kind of bored but overall i loved bass drum. So i guess i would just agree with everyone and show them some cool videos and tell them how awesome they could be if they tried their hardest

the thing with high school bass lines, is that most of them want to be the sweetest bass line out there, but they think bass is so easy, and procrastinate(sp?, no offence to anyone in a high school bass line.

No offense to any bass people out there...but I didn't really enjoy my first year on bass. I played 4th... but it was really fun at first, but when I saw across from me the tenors...I just wanted them so much more.

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting sick of "....Well, I got screwed over. I'm really the best player at my school. Seriously. They just all hate me and IT'S NOT FAIR!" ? If you were REALLY the best player at your school, then I would think that you wouldn't have any problem making any instrument you wanted to play. Unless of course, your BD is a complete idiot...which always seems to be the case.

I'm seeing patterns...

sorry if I'm getting annoying with the whole 'best' thing, but the problem isn't really that he's an idiot, but he's show style and that's all he's ever known. Anybody who has ever seen me play with my corps knows that I should be on snare, but he doesn't think I can 'handle' it because I'm corps which seemingly sucks to him or something just since he's not that style. Now we have a corps style instructor from my corps who seems to think I'm needed more on bass but knows that I'm good at snare. That's all I needed. I'm willing to be do what's best for the line if it's really what's best. I disagree with that being the best thing for the line since one of snares is absolutely horrible, but I trust our new instructor.
