Cymbals inverting is mostly from bad technique, but if the cymbals are of poor quality, is it always the technique? They are some that we use for concert, and I was just woundering because they have a bad habit of doing it.
Its usually from bad technique. If they're poor quality, then the "bad technique" is playing them past their threshold.
Well, you could argue that, atleast. If they're just trash cymbals, then they're trash cymbals. After the first inversion, I've noticed cymbals tend to have a "sweet spot" where no matter how pristine the technique is, if you hit the cymbal in the right contact spot, it will invert.
Just remember this situation. A crappy set of cymbals gets inverted. If bad technique was not blatantly obvious, do not ask "was it bad technique or just a crappy cymbal?" because the question should really be "Who cares?". Its a crappy pair of cymbals, what do you expect?

Absolutely! There is something wrong with people who think it is okay to destroy instruments on purpose.

I really don't think inverting cymbals ruins them. It's happened to us a few times and we were able to fix it.
Even so you don't want to invert them seeing as it's one of the scarier things to happen when you're playing cymbals.
That and if your strap breaks and your cymbal falls off mid crash.
