I remember when I first started i didn't know crap about drumming. This was in seventh grade, where we didn't play in the drumline until the end of the tear pep rally. A guy on tenors taught us how to play the snare part but once I saw him play the part on tenors, i wanted to play. The next year, I was stuck on snare, but I crappy kid cried to his mother, who then convinced the band director to move him from cymbals to bass. I was mad, but eventually, I just ended up taking the crappy set of quads home. Now I'm not as good as I want to be, but I'm on my third year now, and I'm happy. (That same crappy kid is also on the line this year, but his last chair, moving up from cymbals.)

Umm... I'm pretty good at all three. I'm REALLY good on bass and tenors, and I could probably make my high school snare line too. I guess it was just the fact that I'm better on tenors than snare.

Way to be arrogant Chris.

He actually is pretty decent on tenors.

I wanted to play snare when I got to high school. But I have just watched quad stuff from drum corps and tenors are just so beastly. I just remember watching the Cadets tenors in 2006 in the Lot and falling in love with them. Now, I really want to play a six-pack. My high school only has quads at the moment. But everybody has to start somewhere right?

When I joined our HS drumline, originally I wanted to play snare...I guess I like the different combinations of what one can play on quads. And watching vids of Tim Jackson and Bill Bachman really influenced me to want to play tenors,

It simply was the music the tenor line had my freshman year. There were three seniors and one junior (the junior the best of them both), and their music rivaled that of drum corps material. No lies there. That got me started. Then I saw Tim Jackson's '06 solo. After that, I sold my soul to the tenors (honestly, who wouldn't after that). I actually feel more comfortable with traditional, but due to a bad broken bone my 8th grade year, I don't have enough turn in my left wrist to play even 6 inches off the drum (even with P.T.). So I tried out for quads, and made third chair (soph). Junior (current) year I became caption leader, and as of now I am working on material for the '09 season of DCI with either Cavaliers or Bluecoats.

My H.S. uses quints. and hopefully everyone here knows cavies and bluecoats use six-packs

when I WAS In kindergarden The Estero High drumline came to my school and my first question was why is that guy standing in the back (the tennor player) he's awesome the whole hour they played for us I tried to drum along with him. My mom was a snare and I asked her what the funny instrument with 5 drums was after that I was sold

I've seen tons of high schools play DCI level books and it's usually a train wreck. Now, if you tell me they played it DCI clean then you've got my attention.
