I don't think snare just does it for me. Plus, I like how they sound, the challenge, the endless possibilities in cross-overs, scrapes, etc.. They're great. I think they fit me the best anyways. I guess after a season on them, they kind of shaped my "marching percussion image." If that makes any sense.

I haven't officially started but it has to do a lot with the sound and the image of the way they play, it's a lot more free than snares, and i like motion.

What made me want to play quads is, on 8th grade night I was in percussion so I was set to hang around with the drumline and there was this hispanic guy playing 4 drums (my knowledge of percussion wasn't much then). He was cute but they way his hands moved and sounds that he made were something that stuck with me forever. I knew I would play them someday, when I was on the drumline my freshmen year I played bass but when season ended I declared that I would play tenors since the seniors left, no one wanted to anyway. So thats how and why I wanted to play tenors

Alyn, where are you? Get your story in, haha.
Another one for me was watching the HS tenorline. Of course in 8th grade, they're gods.

I first started playing tenors because our high school needed another person to play them in a parade. After learning out parade routine I realized they are more fun then snare or bass. I love the look and sound of them.

The idea of playing the harmonic and medlodic set of the drumlines. The Ritualistic Idea that the bass holds it all together, and the Snares add the accents is what got me into it all... but it was the melodic groove that the Multi-Tenors created.. It is what made the chart musical... It is what makes a Cadence flavorful. The snare was fun until it got too boring.. There was only one sound.. two max if wanted.(Unless you have Dynasty. Then it's three.) With Multi-tenors there are endless possibilities.. a hit, center-hit, rim shot, gawk, ping shot. All are different sounds on all differents drums and could all be used in different ways to make one peice of music change into a completely different sound... That is why I chose Tenors...

What made me want to play tenor drum, tom-toms, trios, quads, quints, sextets was the sound for one. At the first DCI show I went to, I saw the SCVanguard warm up and they played Double Beat 2004 (for this was in 2004), and the quad parts just moved me. Also I like they way they look when they're on a stand. (?)

My reasons were mostly the same as others. Endless possibillities with scraps (err scrapes as posted below lol), and pretty much watching other great tenor players/ DCI lines play with such composure.

I never wanted endless scraps. I got enough junk at my house as it is. I did like the idea of scrapes though.

Because I freakin love 'em! Can't get enough. Unlike snare, the possiblilities are just endless. ANYTHING you can do on snare, you can do on quads. BUT you can do it on 5 more drums!

I really didn't choose tenors. My line was all messed up cause we had someone not in band join and someone quit. I sorta got stuck with quads, but I was fine with it. I really like the tenors. I might have to play snare next year but I'd rather play tenors.

the reason i started playing was when i was in middle school, the high school quad player SUCKED. he couldn't do a crossover to save his life. so during the summer between middle school and freshman year i practiced my butt off. when tryouts came around i knew all the music by heart and was confident that i would get the spot. i made it for quads. since than we have had two guad players. ive taught two out of the three other quad players to play. now im the dumline sectron leader and lead quad player.

Haha. I like that reason. What's fun though is when you can, and you incorporate it on the Multi-Tenors.

I sat down one day and figured that snare is only one drum, but quads is 5/6....more drums=more fun. plus i stank at traditional grip, so it all worked out.

I've wanted to play the tenors ever since the first time i saw a drumline. The more complex rythems, the fact that there is more than one pitch, and the difficulty is something i always strived to be on top of. after a couple years of playing them, I now enjoy every minute i spend with the tenors when I'm with my drumline.

I started out playing drumset, and as i became more and more fascinated with drums i had a hunger to learn them all! So with the help of my private teacher i dove into the marching world. When i first saw a drumline (Blue Devils of course), i loved the mere look of a 4 man tenor line presenting themselves like champions and moving so fast and playing so steady. That day, a quad drummer was born in me.

I honestly really don't know what made me want to pay quads. (Technically quints, but no one calls them that at our school.) It was a very gradual change. I was always one of the snare guys, striving for that. But tenors just looked... better. I could only find one thing that I hated. They looked heavy. I guess I'll get to find out in May, if all goes well.

lets see..... in 7th grade, my band director pulled them off of a shelf and said, "This is the note that goes to this drum..... (etc.) Play it!" when i went home that day i tried my hardest to learn all of the stands music while learning how to play them. after that i fell in love with the instrument and had no interest in anything else. +++ i hate traditional grip.

I've wanted to play those since I was a little kid. They were always the coolest instrument at the football games! It's pretty cool to be playing the same cadence that I've been listening to for over a decade.

take it from some one who plays both snare and tenors snare takes a lot more muscle and chops to pull off but tenors take much more accuracy i love them both for different reasons, but i do play snare for my corps

When I was a Freshman in HS, I played bass. Bass has its tough spots but I wanted more of a challenge. I was interested with tenor since I thought of it as more of a logical challenge rather a rudimentary one. I tried it and I was hooked and ever since then, thats what I've been playing.

On a tag day to raise money, before the season and drumline auditions, I was pretty muched volunteered to play tenors due to the lack there of. I was in pit the previous season and had no idea what I was getting into. I had originally wanted to march 4th Bass but from then on I was in love with the quads.
