Hi guys I dont want to buy a actual quad set. So what is the best quad practice pad?

Different people have different opinions and I really don't think there is a "best" pad. I personally like the VF Quadropad (I have the large model). Check the reviews section.

You can buy some drum mutes and cut them in half for a DIY project. If you cut them right, I guess you could make two quad pads, maybe for someone else on the line...

Or you can buy a VF Quadropad! That's what I have.

I'm thinking about getting the quadropad myself, but I'm worried that once I get on a drum, I'll be hitting rims like crazy (Because there are no fake rims on the pad). Is this a legitimate concern?

i was worried about the same thing, but i found that laying an extra pair of thick sticks between the pads will alleviate some of this problem... did for me at least.

super glue some rubber erasers to the pad where the rims would be...

I have both a VF Quadro pad and a Xymox tenor pad. I personally prefer the Xymox because it has the rims. The fact that you also don't have to purchase laminates separately is also a plus.

I have the VF Quadro and the only thing that had some negative effect was that my placing was a little off and I didn't notice it as easily because it doesn't matter where you hit it on the pad it makes the same sound. But when I finally got the tenors the pad REALLY paid off.
