We used Colin McNutts last year. (Teehee. Nutts.)

But in previous years we've used Thom Hannums and Ralph Hardimans.

I agree, but are you surprised to hear something like that from a person who quoted Hopkins in his signature? = )

Personally I feel like this thread is useless without some support for why you're using the particular stick you do. And the people simply posting "vic firth" aren't telling us anything.

As much as I would like to keep my snare stick a consistent thing, sometimes our music and my arrangements dictate otherwise. This fall we're doing a show that has a very note-filled opener about two minutes long, and the way I write, I felt the regular Scott Johnson's would work the best, and the rounded tip will sound good on some ride passages they'll have in the closer.

im surprised i havent responded to this yet...
our snares use the SSJ (scott johnson) snare sticks for most performances. its a big meaty stick and allows the snares to project over our large pit and excitable horn section...
we use promark matt savage rubber tip sticks (aka deadbeats?) as a special effect stick. we might switch to the rubber tip scojos now, if this years show warrants any stick changes
the tenors, interestingly enough, also used SSJ snare sticks. that combined with 6-8-10-12-13's cranked to oblivion made for some rather outlandish sounding tenors.
we're switching them to vegas this year however, and we're buying larger sets of quints. along with MTS snares and new basses.

Alright, going along with Snarepaint's idea to explain the reasoning behind sticks:

Our snares use Thom Hannums because they're light, give plenty of rebound, and are very, very comfortable for the young hands that our line has. All four of our snares this year are first year snares, unfortunately, so the Hannums will be especially useful in opening up the rolls and being comfortable for long periods of time.

I have my line use Hardimons. I think they're a great stick for younger players, not too heavy, not too light, it's a good all purpose playing stick, and an easy tranisition from smaller drumset sticks. And they feel great!

Last year we used IP Bret Kuhn's. We wanted a beefy stick that put out plenty of sound, and those huge tips certainly did that. But those tips certainly made stick angles (or lack of them) a pain, and forced us to use a more robotic technique, which isn't quite what we're after. I picked up a pair of Paul Rennick 2's and all I can is damn, this stick is amazing. It's quick, and the weight/distribution naturally causes you to grip it more with your back fingers, instead of your fulcrum. This makes for better control, better sound quality, and less finger damage. I'm not sure I'll pick up another pair of sticks (except my Tom Augnst's of course)
