That's it? No one has anything else to say. Well, I really shouldn't have expected more. Why you ask? We had 52 people complete the voting. Does that number seem low to everyone? It should. Every finalist cadence had at least 114 downloads, so that means less than half of the people who downloaded the cadences actually voted in the poll. So, basically 62 people said "Thanks for the free music" sucker. You think that is a little harsh? Possibly, but with all of the time and effort that went into this contest you would think people would respect their fellow members enough to at least participate.

For the 52 of you who completed the poll and the 14 members who submitted cadences, thank for you helping to make the contest worth the effort.

I liked the cadence I wrote for this contest and I probably wouldn't have written it otherwise so I'm glad we had it.

Yea, I could see how it sucks that you guys did all of this hard work and you get that in response. I had fun critiquing the cadences, and can't wait to see the results.

Ok, the time has come for results. Again, thanks to everyone for their participation. First, we are going to match members names to each finalist cadence.

Cerebral Flatulence -- drumholio
Forced Entry -- snarepaint
Green Line -- BigCouch14
Just Don't Know -- MTSfloater
ScuBidibah -- darkshadyturtle
Soup to Nuts -- BigCouch14

Next, we are happy to announce that first and second place will receive a prize pack. Details of the prizes will be finalized and revealed at a later date. The two winners can expect to be hearing from Kevin_fu soon.

Ok, now on to what everyone has been waiting for me to get to: the announcement.

In sixth place, we have Forced Entry written by snarepaint.

In fifth place, we have Cerebral Flatulence written by drumholio (feels wierd to write in the third person)

In fourth place we have Just Don't Know written by MTSfloater

In third place we have Soup to Nuts written by BigCouch14

In second place we have ScuBidibah written by darkshadyturtle

So, obviously the winner of the 2007 DLO cadence contest is Green Line written by BigCouch14.

Alright, there you go. So, what does everyone think? Did the DLO community get it right and choose the best cadence? I will tell you this, the 7 judges had the cadences in a much different order. Also, as just an observation, it seems that the DLO community gravitated towards the harder cadences more than the less complicated ones. I remember the last time we did this contest, the simpler cadences received higher placements. It amazes me how much the "taste" around here has changed in 4 years.

In my humble opinion, yes, the DLO community did choose the best cadence.

But in all seriousness, I am pleasantly surprised, as my rankings were somewhat different.
Is it possible for the judges' line up to be posted? I'm curious as to how they ranked the cadences.

I don't think music on the difficult side is necessarily better, but two things that gravitating towards the hard cadences might signal: possibly that harder music is more appreciated, or maybe some people judged only the mp3s. Just some speculations...

P.S. I'm welcome to any criticism on the two cadences I submitted.

The judges tabulation was done in a different style than the community vote. Each judge gave the cadences a score of 0-5 in 4 categories: groove, playability, marketability and look of score. Then they totaled the score for each category and came up with a total score. Then we took the total scores from each judge and came up with a final overall score. So, the following results ARE NOT which cadence each individual judge thought was the best, but results based on overall points. I will have to ask the judges if they want their INDIVIDUAL results posted.

This is out of a possible 140 points:

Cerebral Flatulence - 114
Just Don't Know - 110
Soup to Nuts - 110
Forced Entry - 109
Green Line - 108
ScuBidibah - 108

As you can see there was a tie for "5th." That meant there would be six finalists instead of the announced 5. In retrospect, it is very interesting considering the two that tied were the community's vote for the top 2 cadences.

One last thing. If you wrote a cadence for the contest and would like to know what the judges thought of your cadence, shoot me a PM and I will get together a collaboration of what each judge said about your cadence.
