We all use electrical white tape also with as little overlapping as possible but it gets lazy towards the end of the season.
What do you guys think about having colored stripes on the sticks?

Our snares used to tape the entire stick white (even though we used Hardimon's) and then go around the entire stick with blue stripes.
It ended up being too expensive. We would have to retape the blue before every game because pep band and the halftime show rimshots made the blue look choppy.
Now our entire drumline tapes all black. I have a pair of Paul Rennick's that I have taped to the fulcrum, and about an inch from the butt, but I'm not allowed to use them. (Because they're featherweights. ;P)

I know this post is a bit dated, but I just came across it now...
In regards to Stick tape (specifically Stick tape.com) I feel there is a significant difference in a few areas (for me at least) besides the most noticeable being the adhesive, it's A LOT less sticky but still sticks extremely well to the stick (and not to your hands on hot days). It's slightly thinner than electrical tape but also more durable as well due to the PVC backing (a big plus).. AND it come in larger rolls (less $ per roll as well)
I think it's a great way to go... I personally only use Sticktape.com for our programs needs..... I recommend to those that haven't tried it... try it out. Anyone who has a great amount of experience with electrical tape (eg. being used in extreme cases... meaning really abusing sticks and wrapping a lot of sticks) you'll love this alternative. My opinion and I've been around.
(to a newbie, or someone who doesn't play a lot etc... you won't notice much... although to experienced drummers out there... the small things mean a lot)
Mike

It doesn't melt?
A friend of mine bought actual "stick tape" (as opposed to electrical tape) and I didn't realize that it was melting until some of it got on my drum.
It also got on the bass heads before Homecoming, and considering it left a huge black smudge, we had to replace them. ;P

I believe my schools snares tape all the way down.
personally, i like to tape snare sticks all the way down till about 3-4 inches from the butt. same goes for tenor sticks.
