Last year I played Timpani and this year our band had a drumline
Last year I was the center snare player during football games but the parts were super simple
Now being the actual center snare I have been practicing and my paradiddles is what im worst at.
Every time I try to accent in the middle as im diddling the accent comes out as a diddle and if not it feels really weird.
Thanks in advance

Practice them slowly, make sure your sticking is correct and then slowly speed it up but make sure it stays clean and together.

Make sure the only thing you accent is the first tap before the lrr or rll. Rlrr Lrll. Also, practice some accent tap stuff to get used to accenting and then keeping the stick down to do something else. You could even make up some things to work on. Try taking one hand, seeing what it does in a series of paradiddles, and practicing just what that one hand does. Start slow and gradually increase speed.

a great exercise is the paradiddle pyamid by snarescience. It works the single, double, and triple paradiddles.

All you do is play four single paradidles, then four double, and then triple. After that you take it back down to single paradidles. Hope this helps or check it out at the snarescience website

Practice your Accent Taps and the check patterns of each rudiment. For example, for alternating accented paradiddles such as RlrrLrll, you'd practice the accents Like R r L l R r L l. And for paradiddle-diddles (Rlrrll), You'd practice R r l R r l R r l. Just break down the rudiment to it's simplest form, master that, then add in diddles and the like.

Try practicing them as eighth notes and then 16th notes.
Each time you play them increase the tempo 5 beats

Vicfirth.com buddy. On the site they have a whole page dedicated to rudiment practice. Go to the paradiddle section and it will show you how to play it and how to practice it, along with recordings of them being played at different tempos; extremely slow to extremely fast. Additionally, they also have a part where they show you how to incorporate the paradiddle (or whatever rudiment you're practicing) into your playing.

I guarantee it will help you out. Good luck!

Try separating the paradiddles by hand. So instead of practicing as Rlrr Lrll try R rr r R rr r then l L ll. Then put it back together at a slow speed and slowly bring up the tempo. When you start to tense up slow back down a couple clicks, then try upping the tempo again. I would also try playing the rudiment as 16th notes for a couple beats then 32nds. Also make sure you can play it unaccented as well as accented.

Sound it out, placing the accent on the pronunciation & along with the correct sticking.

" PA-ra-diddle, PA-ra-diddle " or move accent to " pa-RA-diddle " or "pa-ra-DIddle" or "pa-ra-didDLE"

It's sounds elementary but it works if you do it slowly. It's like when a kid is learning to read by sounding out the letter syllable by syllable.

Same thing with flam accents " FLAM-ac-cent "

Just a little technique I have learned from great band directors.
Don't worry about going slow & getting it down. Breaking rudiments down to their most basic form is a drumming secret used by many drummers & drum teachers.

I am working on my paradiddle diddles and whenever i am going to the 5 srtoke at the end i tend to crush the notes as the tempo gets faster. any tips or eccersises would be great.

The first question I would ask is if you can play medium and fast singles and doubles which will utilize different muscle groupings. If not, pick up a copy of Rudimental Logic or other valid source to walk you through the progression of speed into medium and fast tempos. www,vicfirth.com as mentioned previously is a great source in general...

If you can perform double and single stroke roll breakdowns (slow to medium to fast to medium to slow) then I would start out just playing two sixteenth note singles (R, L) then a five stroke roll (RR, LL) which will give you a paradiddle-diddle sticking although the note base will be two 16th notes followed by the four 32nd notes...slowly.

From there, widen your sixteenth note singles and open up your 32nd note doubles to give you all notes equalling the same note base = 16th note triplets, also known as 24th notes.

Increase tempo gradually....and enjoy!
