Thank you all for your input. With all that, I think I'll stick to traditional, seeing as though I know steven's but it is very uncomfortable for me.

All great players who play traditional grip. Come to think of it...most all the Japanese players I've seen generally played Burton.

Unless I'm interpreting your post wrong, most Japanese players play traditional grip, not Burton grip (although they look similar from a distance, they're quite different).

You are correct sir. I think my fingers were typing a little faster then my mind was thinking. Thanks for catching and correcting.

Duall, if you ever decide in the future that you want to give the Stevens grip another shot, I highly recommend "Simply 4" by Gifford Howarth. It really helps the percussionist who wants to add the Stevens grip to his/her "Toolbox of Technique." Just my two cents.

I actually would recommend buying Method of Movement instead of Simply 4. Simply 4 was the first four mallet book I bought and it didn't help me at all. Method of Movement is waaaay more comprehensive.

scratch your palms with your ring finger and pinky, it'll build strength in your hands, which'll help a lot.

I think that you shoudln't switch grips completely, but it would be beneficial to take the time to learn how to do Stevens, because knowing diferent grips couldn't hurt anything. And as for it being unconfortable, Stevens was very unconfortable for me when I started using it, but as time goes by, and you get used to using a grip, it gets a lot better, and it becomes almost second nature to you.
