What's most impressive is that at no time did I add anything to the conversation since I was talking about Pro Mark mallets and this is a thread about Innovative Percussion mallets.***

i disagree my line uses IP and we use these mallets and we've been using the same pairs for 3 years now.
the ones before that had been used for a LONG time...a good 5 years or more. we actually still have these, and they're in pretty good shape.

as to the heads coming off we haven't had this problem.
however i believe the screws ,as the person i quoted stated, might be loosening causing this problem

omg you guys need new mallets
thats great that they hold up that long but you should get new mallets every year if not every season (fall to winter) otherwise you run the risk of dead mallets giving you really bad sound quality on the drum

It is completely understood that many schools are underfunded, however using mallets for years at a time only speaks for product durability and nothing else.

Asking a student to buy a pair of 20-$25 mallets twice a year (don't forget the indoor crowd) is more than reasonable.

My students get one pair of whatever we're using and buy their own bricks after that.

My group gets all new mallets every year. I buy them during the summer and they get them after band camp. Basically, our sticks last from end of camp to end of camp. I've had to replace on bass mallet ever and that was because it broke.

I've been using IP top to bottom for the past 4 years and haven't had any problems.
