one click at a time? That is a little unnecessary. No, on most metronomes there's a dial or a button, and when you hit that button once or move the dial one click, it goes up 3 to 5 BPMs. That's what I meant, not 1 BPM, I don't know anyone with that kind of patience.

I would have to agree with scales as well, they are the rudiments of mallet playing.Do different things with scales, such as rolls, doubles, chromatic, ect. If you get bored with major then learn minor. Also find a simple peace to play, it can help you. I would recommend one of the Bach inventions. They are fun to play, give a challenge to some younger musicians, and they make a good audition piece for college.
