We have a drumline closet too, which we turn into a little lounge with a bunch of chairs and posters. We all sign our names on the door our senior year. We also have a little drum circle before every competition where we say some encouraging words and sway. Also at band camp we all go out to the nearest Bulk-Item store and buy a bunch of those little gatorade bottles, plus whatever else we drink in plastic bottles over the week, and the last night we have "bottle wars." where basically we pick teams and then we chuck bottles at each other either until we're tired or we get in trouble for being too loud. We do something similar at the hotel we stay at championship weekend, only it's a huge pillow fight. The biggest one though is that at the last practice before we leave for championship weekend, the staff leaves and we do one last runthrough for ourselves. The drumline all takes their shirts off... This would be 9:30 at night in the middle of November in New Jersey. It's usually between 30 and 40 degrees out.

We usually have a huddle where someone says a prayer before a competition.

And then the tenors have a race (with drums on) after every important practice.

every marching season, we'd sign a drumhead and the folks at the local cracker barrel hang it on the wall beside one of our old uniforms.

Before every competition, we would put a band-aid on.
Get it? "Band aid."

Then we would put a penny under the soles of our shoes.
"Penny under the soul."

Superstitious thing. Oh well.

The only one (that our band director hasn't destroyed yet... :| ) is that after every big practice we "bring it in" and stand in a group (the whole band) and yell out a sort of school chant thing...then the drumline captain yells "drumline together" and we all say something (it's always something random...or something that we need to work on, etc.)...Then after every competition or parade, when we do the drumline together thing we always yelln "Whoo-Ahh!" it's the only drumline tradition thats still around here... \:\( maybe since i'm going to be a higher influence in my line this year i'll get some more started... ;\) .

After every game, we assemble in the drum room, turn the lights off, and turn on the strobe light. We rave out until a director catches us, or we fall from exhaustion.

Another tradition is that every year, one unlucky new player has to wrestle our 6'5 giant. pointless but hilarious.

I teach at a school that is all about tradition. The problem is, they have a young band director (who marched BD), and they have me, and we're all about corps style playing. These kids are somewhere in between show style and corps style. I don't mind tradition necessarily, but I refuse to give in to "tradition" if it means my line will sound like crap.

one thing ive noticed is a lot of big indoor groups have a "signature" lick or something, like NCA has that one lick, and MCM does the bass hop, and the whole cmcm thing, im trying to see if we can have something like that at my school, which would be tight, cause i started it grin
