My high school is hecka small, so our selection for drumline members is limited, basically, it's on an accept all basis. Which really sucks because anything i write, our line can't play.

What does your post have to do with the topic?

so you know what i mean? our cadences do have a nice grove to them but the same thing over and over again gets really boaring. my line wont listen to me this year but hopefully next year they will. im sick and tired of kicking but in competitions with the band but then getting embarrised as a line by our cadences.

Uggghhh...high school football games and the need to prove who has the better line. It's a freakin' football game people.

Real competitions have judges, not an audience. You can back stick and drum to drum 8th notes and the fools at a football game will be impressed.

every post in this thread is "cadences, cadences, cadenceS" I've heard similar requests myself: "we need to learn more cadences so we can play them at football games." I've never seen your particular high school lines, but usually kids asking for more music don't spend nearly enough time on the parts they have in their hands.

Why not work on one cadence that you can actually play well instead of several you can just barely shlock through? If you really feel the need to show off at a football game, chop it up in to pieces and play a little bit at a time.

We all want to have fun when we drum, but playing one cadence and having it sound good is so much more fun than playing 10 of them horribly.

I understand where you are all coming from but my line does not even go to drumline compititions and we dont have a drumline season...its just the marching show then concert band. our school has had all these cadences for at least 10 years and has been passed down so every single person in the school knows them. after a while playing the same thing is boring. it just stinks that our bd doesnt care about the drumline and thinks we're good for nothing and cant even go to drumline competitions or do wgi. i just wish our line could play somthing else besides the marching show then concert band. i guess thats where i'm going with this.

Dude. Chill. Like I said were in the same boat. We don't do drumline competitions, we've never done Winter Drumline or indoor. To our Band Director, drumline is just part of the band and nothing else.

I can understand that. Along the same lines as what I was saying, my suggestion to you if you're sick of what you've got would be to find a new cadence (singular) that you like, whether it's one that's free to use on the internet, or in a book, or better yet get together and write one yourselves as a drumline if you don't have an instructor who will write one for you. Make sure it's long enough that you won't get bored with it too quickly. Use the new cadence to replace your old one(s) rather than trying to add it to your repertoire, then you can spend some serious time on it and have something to be proud of when you play it for the crowd.

im not getting anoyed as you seem to think i am just looking for ways to show my line that i am a good player and not just a stupid freshman. dredpir i have written a few cadences but my line wont listen. if anyone has sujestions they would be greatly appreciated.

also now that this subject is over is there any things you do in the stands to pump up the croud or things that your lines do to have fun at games/pep rallies/regersals. (my band is lame thsts why im asking) lol

also now that i'm venting my anger last year m school got 5 new yamahs basses 2 new quints and 0 new snares. we still have these 7 year ld snares where on one of them the snare strainer wont even stay on with screws so we had to super glue it. that really annoyes me that the rest of the line gets new stuff and the snares get zip. o yea...they also got new carriers and we still get our old ones.

sry about this post i know i was venting my anger but it felt good.

LOL

We play Pony only with drumline and one trumpet so the rest of the band goes in front of the stands and dances. A good portion of the crowd comes and does it with them.

We do the same with Soulja Boy. I know it's kinda lame, but at least were not playing it as a band. Gets the crowd pumped up smile
