I posted a topic previously in regards to my band director completely shutting me out from doing the drumline for this season, without even seeing me play. I took Dave_Fry's advice, and went right to the percussion instructor. Unfortunately, he made it apparent that it's not going to happen, though he's tried to get me a chance. BD is just not going to crack.

So is it worth it to go to auditions now? I'm really not sure. If I go, I already know the outcome and it'll feel like a waste. If I don't go, what kind of message does that send BD? I quit? He wins?

Help?

Yea, I would do the audition too

Even if you dont get in, oh well, audition anyway, try and make it fun, and if anything, itll mess with the other drummers heads

Audition, definitely. In my humble opinion.

I remember thinking about posting in this topic telling you not to go, but then I decided not to. Phew! Good thing I didn't post that, you'll have so much fun on drumline.

Well I wanted to do DL this upcoming year for marching season only (I am primarily a trombonist... obviously... lol)
Well anyways I asked the BD and told him I was gonna get lessons and everything and he just flat out told me no.
We are a small small small band though... 1A,
and he said he didn't want to lose me on trombone

That's exactly what happened to me. Like, right down to what your band director told you, only for me, flute.

You should still try out, if auditions haven't happened yet. I did, and I'm so glad. =)

I went to "auditions" and I got kicked out because I play trombone, and apparently, the BD could really give a crap if I can do better on the line.

I prolly just drum before rehersals, after and during breaks, depending on what the situation is.

I need somethin to play besides electric wheelchair and swiss army triplets though...

Get the John S. Pratt "14 Modern Solos for contest" book, that will keep you busy for a bit. Also try getting your rudiments down, Just playing swiss army's and a watered version of electric wheelchair does not really help you in the long run.

As for making bass one, Congratz, He must think you've got some good chops, especially for bass one

Well, I also now have the real EW, but I will look through that book, and keep looking a my rudimental and quad logic books.

My metrenome is to loud and has no volume ajustment, and you can here it a couple houses up in this subdivision. The headphone are loud too, like turning an ipod all the way up, and the metrenome on my ipod is to quiet to here while playing, and I can't bring my pad out of the garage or my room to get to a computer, and I can't buy another off the internet and I my parents don't like music stores that much..]

But yeah, Ill keep lookin at stuff

Thanks. =)

Our band director didn't even go to auditions, and just left our instructor to make suggestions for him to either agree or disagree with. He's NEVER seen my chops. Oh, well. He certainly will this year. =D
