im thinkin about buyin my little bro one of the heavy hitter bass pads. has anyone used it before.I just want to know if its worth the 50 dollars

it has its advantages, but in general i'd say it's not worth it. I would just get a normal pad or something. Not worth 50$. It helps until you develop the knowledge of where the center of the pad is, which differs from bass to bass, so even that is not much of an advantage.

I guess (from what I've heard) The big selling point is that you can see where your hitting the drum. Good for new bassists. Also to work on complex runs

I think you might have to use actual snare sticks though, I hav'nt see anyone use bass mallets when they demonstrate it, only sticks

Considering it's not that much more expensive than a good normal pad, I'd say it's definitely worth the money to somebody new to bass. If your lil bro doesn't have a lot of experience just with the whole feel and posture of the drum, it would be a great thing for him.
