I know this might be a repeated topic but I need fast help. So today was our first day of pre band camp. I am trying out for snare and i am a small guy (5'5" 115) and i was having trouble holding the snare drum for 45 min. My instructor notised that and told me that he sees me working but i need to show him that i can hold the drum in order to be on the line.

So my question is should i talk to him about the fact that i will work over the summer because i just bought myself a snare and i am new to the marching thing or should i just try my hardest to keep the drum on and if in need to be a wimp just take it off(with permission of course)?

If your instructor is smart he knows what you're going through, after an off season carrying a drum is a killer. The way you move forward though is to suck it up. You won't die. Keep good posture and drink water and you'll survive. You don't need to talk to him, just work hard and it'll be fine.
