Hey everyone, so it seems to me that more and more people are simply using the "general drumline stuff" section to discuss topics that have their own dedicated forums, (I'm not pointing fingers, I do it too >_<). But anyway, the "general drumline" section is probably filled with these obscure topics because that section receives the most traffic and is therefore more likely to result in more responses. Face it, how many people regularly check the "Cymbal Equipment" section or the "History" section?

The reason that so few people check those forums is not because they don't care about those topics, it's just that people don't want to check each forum separately. To be honest, I usually only check the General Drumline, Off topic, and Snare playing sections, but perhaps I could have had a good discussion about the pros and cons of vic firth and innovative percussion. Too bad it's stuck in the obscure Brands section that's lost in the crowd of the other un-used sections.

Basically what I'm saying is, we need to condense some of these forums, and instead of having one forum dedicated to general drumline stuff and fifty others for specifics, why don't we have several broad sub-forums. Instead of having a Pipe Band section and a Show Style section, we could have an section called "Other Ensembles" which could also include concert percussion. And are "Troubled Programs," "Instructing," and "Motivation" all that different? Aren't the topics in "Composing and Arranging" pretty similar to those in "Cadences?" And don't "Practicing" and "Rudiments" go hand in hand?

So what do you say? Lets condense some of these sub-forums, that way people don't have to spam the big ones in order to get a little discussion going.

I don't think your laziness is reason enough to put that much time into re-organizing the entire discussion forum. If you only want to check a couple forums, that's your choice. The forums are there to keep all the threads organized, and I don't foresee it changing to a format such as The Drum Club once had.

Happy day smile

Also,

Using the active topics feature is a much faster way of finding updates in every sub forum, so this change would be unnecessary.

I have been around this forum for four plus years and this is without question the best organized and best moderated forum on the web. The site has been around a few years bro and this is what the site looks like after a few years of reworking things again and again...

I fail to see how something is stuck in an obscure forum when said forum is literally on the same page as general drumline. It is a simple matter of clicking the "brands" link just like you click the "general drumline" link.

The composing/arranging and cadence sections have turned into something of the same thing because users have started posting their original works in the cadence forum. The composing/arranging forum is technically the correct place to post "compositions." The cadence forum was originally designed to discuss things like electric wheelchair and bunco rules (for examples).

If spamming the general drumline forum gets out of hand, I could forsee their not being a general drumline forum. That way everyone actually has to think about what they post instead of just throwing it up.

The only disadvantage to all of the organization is when you try to go to another forum somewhere on the internet you wonder why it's so disorganized. I use Active topics too, its at the top of the bar, it's the bets way to do it.

I'm not sure exactly how this would be a disadvantage, unless you're talking about other sites disorganization being a disadvantage to them specifically. I, as well as many others, see this sites organization as a big plus.

I meant after being used to an organized place it's sometimes very hard to find what you're looking for on other forums.
