Trouble marching with tenors

I'm having some trouble learning to march with tenors now. I played pit for three years, but now I'm drum captain and will be playing tenors for my senior year. The trouble is that I can't get the harness low enough for my hands to be at the right height without having it hit my legs when I march.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? I'll take any advice.

The trouble is that I can't get the harness low enough for my hands to be at the right height without having it hit my legs when I march. Welcome to the world of marching tenors. I hate to break it to you, but there are going to be way more uncomfortable aspects of the instrument than how low the drums hang on your legs. Notice that the bottom of the shells are at his knees (or possibly below, I can't tell due to the shadow). It's just a matter of grinning, bearing, and getting used to it.

Don't worry, just get used to how it feels, our quads were like that, they were too high up and I never really bothered to notice, I just got accustomed to how it feels, once you get used to it, you will barely notice it, if at all.

haha yea too high up? no dude u should see the tenors im having to march this year..they're seriously up to my chest.. i mean of course we're goin to adjust them at band camp, but its just cuz they're still set up for the guy that last marched those specific tenors. we haven't marched those tenors in a good two or 3 years so thats why they're still like that
