Okay, back to the topic at hand. What were we talking about? Something about a Cavie tenor play who was tilting? The real topic was Cavies using one 8" spock this year. I guess the final word is Cavies are using one 8" spock because akeith told Jim & Jim it was ok (after they were finished mowing his lawn).

From the video I've seen/heard, the 8" spock is tuned at a good pitch and compliments the overall percussive sound. It's actually a little refreshing to hear because as much as I like a reefed 6" spock, the 8" has more warmth and body. I agree, it adds a lot to everything I think and the way it is tuned just totally fits the theme 100%. I'm excited to see what will happen with the Cavies this year.

now my high school line uses an 8" as drum 1. Does this mean that the cavaliers won't be playing in the center of their spock? Will they play in the "correct" playing zone? Or will they just crank it so tight it doesn't matter anymore?

I would imagine they would just play the center of the 8 inch, If you play your 8 inch at school, theres not a very big sound diffrence between the "correct" area near the rim, and the middle of the drum.
I mean, The 8 inch sounds nice, but, the positions on it are just to small. (In my opinion) I would imagine it would not make too terrible of a diffrence weather or not they play in the center of the drum. Especially since I'm sure the Cavies crank that 8 inch a lot more then the highschool lines do, since they use it as a spock and not a "1 drum".

My favorite YouTube comment On the subject of a bad tenor player just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

Based on the videos I have seen I dig the sound of the 8 inch spock. They have tuned it to what must be the sweet spot. In fact I forgot about the 8 inch spock completely in the first video I watched. It took me until about the mid way point of the second one I watched to recall the 8 in spock.
