HELL YEA!! this is quite true. an even more important factor about the bass line is that it alone is the BACKBONE of the band/corps. if the bass line is happening, the band will sound amazing. and if the bass line is shaky, the band will sound like it's dragging along. playing bass well, is very important to your bands/corps overall sound.

Well we're a week into the season. Things ended up being a little different. Last year's instructor ended up taking a sales rep job with Dynasty, so we have a new instructor, a current senior and former center snare. Unfortunately we didn't have drums the first two days of camp, so all auditions were done playing the snare part on a pad, and then we were divided into Snare/Tenors and Bass/Cymbals. Then once drums arrived, he had us play the exercises moving around based on the category he placed us in, and then after an hour or so, set the line. I'm bass 3, which is great with me. The entire bass line is new, (all freshmen and myself), so being on third gives me a chance to get a grip on bass playing without having too terribly demanding parts. Some runs are coming along slower than other parts of the show, but things are shaping up well. Thanks for all the practice tips!

At my school, we've always had a crappy bassline, because as soon as someone gets chops, there's a spot opening up in upper battery that needs to be filled for the next season. It sucks, but we just don't have enough people to maintain 3 strong sections.
