Check out the Blue Devil Encore Stockton on DCI Fan Network (it's free). Around 1:10 there's a closeup of the tenors doing the flat spin. For years Devs quad line had been doing the reverse flip or "statue of liberty," now I've been seeing this more frequently. One of those things that doesn't really look that cool, but if you've ever tried to do it, you know it's really hard.

I've tried it a few times and it is indeed a lot harder than it seems.

You do a full stick flip, but reversed with the bead going down to start instead of up. You throw it up in the air while it's spinning so that you catch it with your arm straight up in the air, and thus you end up looking like the statue of liberty holding the torch.

Are you talking about the visual they do at the end here?

Isn't the visual they do in the video you talked about different?

I was saying that they used to be all about the "statue of liberty" visual, now they've switched to throwing the flat spin into the middle of a big part, which to me seems like it's just hard for the sake of being hard.

You mean like everything they do? wink

The reverse flip is difficult enough, but launching it up for the statue move is definitely a time consuming move to get right.

The same way I've launched hundreds of sticks out of my left hand playing the end of Shake Hands with Beef.
