Yea, So today we had to do a little "select band" march, and suddenly in the middle of the "parade" if you will, we got a downpour. Well, not the middle of the parade, more like before we even met.

Somehow I've gotten water in between my 8 inch tom head, I don't know how, I began noticing it, and thought it was just water underneith, and then the area got bigger before I realised I had water in the head. How do I go about draining the water?

They're remo pinstripes by the way.

You basically wait and see if it'll go away. If not, you replace the head.

Maybe you could take a pin and poke a hole and the water will drain out? I've never had this problem, so this is just a guess.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The head may sound a bit more muffled, but the water should dry out after a while and it will be fine.

That's really what it sounds like, it's not TOO terrible, but it sound's like a really light muffle, enough to annoy any veteran tenor player, but not enough for a non-percussionist to notice.

So I've just taken the head off and put it on a towel, vertically against a wall, see if I can get some of the water to run out. I mean, it had to get in there somehow, right?

It happened to me a couple times during the last DCA season I marched. (It seemed like we were getting hit by a monsoon every freakin' weekend.) Unless there was a performance, I just left the heads on and played through it. After a few days, the water evaporated.

Alright, So everything seems ok then, I thought the head might of been ruined.

Would the watch trick work then? Set the head near a lightbulb for a bit and help it evaporate the water?

I've never heard of rain completely ruining a drum head. Unless it was an excess amount of rain. But yes, you should be fine.

Take it off for awhile and let it dry..I had to march through a tsunami during halftime, just take off the heads, let them dry and them put them back on, as long as they don't soak in the water for a long time they will be fine.
