I noticed an awesome visual that I love to play in Casey Brohard's winning DCI solo in 2005. All that he does is just backstick the second left in a Grandma, is what it looks like. Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzU5HBou2lU and watch at 52 seconds. It just sounds and looks amazingly awesome. Thanks, Casey, for writing that. smile

What do you think? I can't get enough of 'em.

Also, can someone tell me where to find a demo (or explain it yourself) of the spin he does with the left stick at 1:55 in the same video?

I wouldn't say that backsticked grandmas are very...new (for lack of a better word). The thing he did near the end at 2:27 is what I would call "amazingly awesome."

For the other visual, didn't the guy here explain it?

I think so. Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't realize it was the same one. I would love to learn 2:27's visual,I'm thinking about just buying the sheet music (from ScottJohnsondrums.com) and learning the whole solo. smile

2:27 isn't really that hard once you slow it down. Do triplets, hitting the drum on the first one, the butt of the right stick to the left shaft on the 2nd note, and hit the right shaft to the left shaft for the 3rd. Repeat.
