When doing a gock on 4 with the left hand does one move out of the proper playing zone to the back of the drum and gock 1-2" from the rim or do you gock in the correct playing zone? Same question for the right on three.

you mean shot? I've never heard it called a gock before, I've heard of people call spocks that though

Yea, Im pretty sure he means a shot. I've heard it called everything from a ping to a gock, but basically

"The rimshot using only a inch or two of your stick to get a high pitched hollow shot instead of a fat sound from a rimshot"

Colin McNutt once told me he "slices into" a shot with the left on 4 or the right on 3. Just slice outwards and get the outer part of the drum. Sounds really wierd but it's actually pretty easy. or you could just pull back, as your instructor what they prefer there are different ways of doing it
