Ive heard mixed opinions about it and want some insight. I have tried messing with our Pearl snares but still dont seem to get the nice staccato DCI sound. Any other way to do this? Pros and Cons about taping snares?

Pros: Reduces snare response.
Cons: Reduces snare response.

It's basically a question of how much snare sound you want from your drum(s). In large snare lines, the snare sound from all the drums can add up and blur the articulation a bit. Reducing the amount of snare sound from each drum by taping or removing guts can result in a more articulate sound for the line as a whole. It's not something I'd recommend unless you've got a large snare line that plays super clean.

As for a "nice staccato DCI sound", I'd worry more about head selection and tuning than guts. What kind of drums & heads do you have (top and bottom)? Have you balanced the heads, making sure every lug is tuned to the same pitch? Uneven tuning from lug to lug can cause ringing overtones. What interval do you have between top and bottom heads?
