Hey,

So, I looked and couldn't find it, but if there is a post about this please give me the link. Anyway' I just got back from band camp and during camp when we were doing runs of the show and people in my section (the drumline) didn't know where there dot is. So my question is how do you get people to remember what to do on what count without having to tell them during the run?

are they rogetting compleatly where to go?
you just have to make sure they remember which direction there going at each set, how many count the set is, and what the form looks like in relation to them

personally our line has to memorize exactly what are dots are and be able to tell the tech what they are at any given point
ex "im 3 inside the left 40 and 7 in front of the front hash"
that sort of thing

You can't force the members in your line to do anything. I would bring up to your band director or tech that you don't think the drumline is hitting set points very well. this way he/she will be aware that there is a problem and he/she can address it. You should not address it.

Secondly it is impossible to be right on the dot everytime so you will have to elaborate how bad it is.

Lastly if it does get addressed as a "not knowing the drill issue also make they know what the form the line is creating is. so they know who to guide to and what it is supossed to look like.

A little late in the season for this, but when you are learning both the drill and music, have them write the counts and primary direction for each set in on their music. It will serve many purposes on top of just showing someone where to go.
