The mallets that my bass line use at school have a dark dirty looking patch on the mallet head because of use.

Is there any way to clean them or would it be better off to replace them?

Have you tried conventional cleaning like soap and water? A clorox(sp?) wipe would probably do the trick also.

Well, Don't hit the ink and your mallet should (In theory) stay decently clean. Other then that, If it's not effecting how the drum looks (Leaving black spots) Whats the point in replacing it?

If the mallet plays fine, and does no harm.

Dont worry about it, mallets get dirtier with time anyway. If you use any sort of liquid (soap, water anything) on the head, then it will swell up, and be even less usefull than before.

Why not just use some dark mallets like Inovative's. They are kinda a gray color so they don't really look dirty. lol.
