So there are threads all around about best snare, best sticks, etc.

But what is the best place to buy?

I'm specifically looking at trying to get ahold of a snare for practice use, but I think this thread could be useful as a sort of consumer review thread. Where did you buy? How competitive were the prices? Any problems with customer service.

So, help me out. Where should I buy a snare (used OR new)?

I'm not saying you should buy it here but this is my testimony...
I bought a Pearl champ. articulite snare drum from musiciansfriend ( www.musiciansfriend.com )and I loved it.....they matched the price lower to one i found on steve weiss.....they also gave me free shipping and the drum was at my door 4 days later.I would recommend buying a snare drum from mf but, it's all up to you....ask if u need anything else because i know i was not as detailed as i could have been.

A couple of favorites:
Steve Weiss Music
Columbus Percussion

Some other places that often have competitive pricing:
Taylor Music
Chops Percussion
Woodwind & Brasswind

No matter who you buy from, be sure to contact a few sellers and ask for quotes. You'll find that you can often get a better price than what's posted on the web site.

If you're considering Dynasty, you've gotta contact Paul Collins at The Brass Shop. His primary line of business is brass instrument sales & repair, but he's a Dynasty percussion dealer as well. The prices he gives me for my school group always beat every other quote I've been given, and usually by a huge margin. (If you've been around enough drum corps shows, you may have seen his mobile repair shop parked by the stadium. He's been doing repairs for drum corps for a long time. Super nice guy, too.)
