So its a week before camp and I thought I had decided on trying for tenors, which I have been practicing this summer but I keep having second thoughts thinking I should play snare. Maybe it's just the fact that theyre light and you can move around easier thats drawing me towards snare. I want to make the right decision now and not do a semetser wishing i chose the other drum.

Here some extra information:
-Ive had my thoughts on playing tenors for a while now, never considering snare.
-I play set and thats why tenors appealed to me.
-Its feel I may regret picking snare. I feel like I shold play tenors since Ive been thinking about them and if i pick snare I feel like I will be missing out on learning things.

If anybody would know of any way to help me decide that would be very helpful. I know that only I know what i truely want but if there are any questions I can ask myself to decide, that would be great.

I'm also making a list comparing the pros and cons of both drums. And Im also going to try to find some sheet music for both drums and see which i enjoy learning more. And i have talked to my BD and he says he would prefer me on tenors but its up to me.

Thanks

I've played bass, tenors, and snare in a line and its best to just try everything for at least one year. It's just high school so you should take this time to get familiarized with everything. If you stick on one instrument and become godly most likely everyone in your line won't be so you will have to play down anyways.

Pick what is going to challenge you the most, what you think you will enjoy the most, and what will benefit the line the most.

Remember that band isn't about making you feel good, it's about being a small part of something great. orrrrr not great :p

Well go with what you feel, your only a sophmore, you've been in the pit, you've been on bass, and your going to play tenors this year. (Signature)

Maybe try out snare next year, And see what you like best. I've already named a few things to remember, a few things that might make your decision easier, ask yourself questions like that to help you out.

just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

Play what your line needs, they're both very rewarding instruments. :]

if your only resevation about tenors is that there heavy and hard to march then that can easily be fixed. to calf raises to strenthen you legs and crunches to strengthen your abs. back exercises would help to but i dont know any good ones. if you get some muscle in the right spots youll be solid for tenors.

nothing against snares (i play in my line) but why play one drum when you can play 5-6 drums at the same time
