I was just thinking about how my line will be getting a new line of pearls next year (we have 6 year old yahmaha's right now, they aren't bad, but they aren't too good) and we get them with money from the school district every 6 years. When is your school or program getting new equipment and what brand and such. I'm just so curious!

Knowing my school... 5-8 more years. Right now we have Pearl competitor snares from 00 or 02, tenors from 02, and bass drums from 97?

I go to a private school and we recently got a new marimba and a new xylophone, I haven't seen them in so long that I've forgotten the brand, but i believe we also got these snare pads which you can change to sound like a real snare.
Man, I have to start paying attention to my equipment.

Well the school i go to recently opened and the equipment is only 2 years old.....even then we still have one untouched set of quints, one untouched snare and two untouched basses.....haha but for the battery we all have Pearl championship drums and the pit instruments are all Yamaha if im now mistaken.

You're pretty lucky to have a district that ponies up for new drums every 6 years. Most schools I'm familiar with have to raise their own funds for drums, especially if they want to replace them that often. (They really should last longer than that.)

At the school I teach, the district provided the last two sets of drums: Yamaha in 1987 and Dynasty in 2007. (Yes, we were drumming on 20-year old cans.) I think the expectation from the district is for the current drums to last 10 years.

the school I just graduated from is getting new drums for this season. They're using the new Premier drums(which, by the way, are so unbelievably light it's just un-fair)
One school that I'm teching is getting new Pearls next year. We haven't decided on what model yet

Hmm well our school board and high school administration hates us..so we don't get a decent budget..so our drums are mixed between Yamaha, Pearl, and custom mades, in which every drum does not have the same head. We are gonna try and get a new snare this year as cheap as we can, but like we are one of the most successful programs, but our budget is miniscule..most of our funds are self sufficient, and even then we only have enough money for maybe a couple of new instruments every few years.

We did get a good deal on custom made quints, 2 for $500 this year and trying to buy a snare $200-$300 but after that due to money limitations, the battery will most likely not be touched budget wise for years. Our current snare has been around since ATLEAST 1991, we found an alumni that remembers the same snare.

We actually bought a couple of saxaphones this year..their not paid off yet but the only reason we had hope of buying them because we hosted LGPE for our District last year and made profit from that, we are hosting it again this year so thats part of our income, and we are actually doing a fundraised this year, and its not lame like oh selling candy bars, its pretty cool and unique so I think unique ideas will help bring in more donation money.

We are actually getting new heads this year..but we don't have enough budget to get everyone new sticks..everyone on the line..including the 3rd bass, has to buy their own mallets/sticks.
