A couple of months ago, our (high school) drumline played in a festival that had middle schools and elementary schools playing too that were going to feed into our school. In order to show them some cool things, we added in some cool visuals into our cadence that we played at the beginning of the festival.
My friend and I (on tenors) put two black socks on to the back of our harnesses and secured them with some clips. We put a pair of sticks into each and zipped up our uniform so you couldn't see it if you were watching from the front.
We had a section in our music where we rested for enough time to put our sticks in our bag, and reach behind our neck for our sticks. It wasn't all that complicated and it was pretty easy to reach.
The kids were amazed because they didn't even have a clue that our sticks were even there.
Is this a good or bad visual to use for future performances (field show or festival doesn't matter). If not...can you tell me another good way to bring sticks out of nowhere without having to wear complex contraptions?
