I was told that the lighter the shoes the more the mistakes are visible.

I like black shoes better than white because you dont have to worry about clean the black shoes that much

it depends on your band's marching and the uniform. in our band, we wear black shoes but the drum majors wear white pants and white shoes.

That is true because you stick out more. Black blends well with green grass where as white really sticks out.
But depending on what your uniform is would decide the shoe color I'd think.

But also.. Look at Phantom. They are all white. And because they are all white. Their perfected marching looks even sharper and the effect is much stronger because they appear to pop off the feild. Same with crown.

So it has its advantages and disadvantages.

black kinda hides the mistakes and bad marchers

White are nice and flashy, but black are easier to clean. Also, lots of Marching Band uniforms have dark colors as there primary color. I would say black.

Our band wears white marching shoes, and the colors of the uniform are white, green, and gold. Perhaps our marching would look better if we had black shoes, but it wouldn't match the rest of the uniforms and I doubt our program has the money to buy us a whole 'nother set of uniforms. Of course, last year our band was the only band in our division, so it didn't make a difference. I hope we actually compete against another band this year.

our band director is crazy about good marching, so we wear burgundy pants with white shoes to "show off our good marching," it definitely works
