I was just wondering if there were any other good practice techniques for learning the tougher rudiments. I'm just wondering what it takes to play a triple stroke cleanly at a fast tempo. I'm wondering if I'm missing something about technique, and if practicing triple beat over and over all the time is really helping much.

Practice. Triple beat will help a ton, as will triplets on one hand. The only way to get better is to practice, once you get more comfortable with the rudiment, you should start to use some fingers, the bounce of the surface, ect. All that takes practice, thats all you need to do. Take a metronome, play triple beat and triplets, and of course, a triple stroke itself.

just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

Just try the standard slow-fast-slow method for rudiments. There's a reason it's always been advice, because it works. Start at an annoyingly slow tempo then slowly increase the tempo until you max out then slowly slow it back down. Do that several times, continuously making sure that you are using proper technique and that you are executing the rudiment as precisely as possible. As you get faster make sure you push it but don't let it get out of control. This will work not only for your triple stroke but any other rudiment as well.

Just keep up with it and keep practicing. It will seem like you are not making any progress, but trust me; you are. Keep drumming.

One thing that Bill bachman says about the "indepth" technique is based off of his technique for doubles. His doubles, he calls the "Alley-oop" technique, like the basketball move. Triples, he calls "alley-oop-oop". The "alley" refers to the initial down motion of the wrist that plays the forst note. The "oop" is the finger motion used to rebound the stick so that you don't just play the notes, but you get a good quality of sound out of the drum/practice pad/kitchen counter/floor.

Right now, I'd focus on getting the hang of playing triples. Triple beat and playing triple stroke rolls slow-fast-slow are both good ways, and when using the right technique, you should get a good quality sound as well.
