He needed to retire 2 years ago. Look at Michael Strahan. Awesome player, awesome guy, retired, no problem. Now he's happy, working in the box with somw commentators, and left the game while he was on top. Steve McNair also made a quiet, subtle retirement. Just said, "I don't think I have enough left for another season." and left.

Wow, they call that running? Lol, I just don't get why he can't just stay retired. Maybe he should think about coaching? I don't know, but he needs to find something to do. In my eyes, he could easily coach a team to a Super Bowl. But he's a little to late to play to one.

He needed to retire 2 years ago. Are you serious? He had one of the best years of his career last year. If he still has the drive and the ability then why shouldn't he play?

Every backup he's played with has learned FAR more from the coaching staff than form Brett. HOF - of course. Coach - he just doesn't have the mentality to teach others.

Given the way Aaron Rodgers has played this pre-season I don't think he learned much from Favre or the coaches. Either way it's not Favre's job to coach his backups. That's not what he's paid for. Coach - he just doesn't have the mentality to teach others. How can you make that assumption about a person who has never had a coaching position? Lots of great players turn into decent coaches. Hall of Famers Larry Bird, Steve Spurrier, Dan Issel, Mike Ditka, Cheryl Miller, Bill Russell all had respectable coaching careers.

I thought Rodgers looked fairly good in his first real action. No big foul ups, decent footwork, and good game management. Is he Brett Favre? Not yet, but neither was Favre when he started. And whether it's his job or not, great players who turn out to be coaches generally show some of that on the field during their playing careers. Kurt Warner, for example....he's ALWAYS helping to teach others around him, and will be a very good QB coach someday.
Larry Bird was a decent coach? I missed that. Issel was a great player, but only coached for a few years, only making the playoffs once. And all of the people listed there were active in teaching during their careers. Non of them had any issues with helping to develop young talent around them...Fav-ruh is not that guy. He doesn't have the patience to coach.

I thought he did well? Obviously, this is the first season he's going to get action all season, and he might make mistakes, but you know what? It shouldn't matter. He's a great QB with awesome potential.

Just said, "I don't think I have enough left for another season." and left. Strahan left because he won a super bowl. He would still be playing if that had not happened. ..and don't get me started on McNair. You said Favre should have retired 2 years ago...at least Favre was decent (obviously above that in 07, not so much in 06). McNair was done when the Titans showed him the door. He was supposed to come in and be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Ravens to win another Super Bowl. What happened....NOTHING. His mobility was gone and so was his arm strength. He moped around his last year in Tennessee (last one there, first one to leave) and did not try to do extra work with the new receivers. Even though he was a mentor to Vince Young, he did not want to be one teaching him the ropes. As soon as he gets to Baltimore he is coming in early, staying over to work with receivers, and everyone is raving about his attitude. If he had done that stuff in TN, he never would have been locked out of the practice facility. His last 3 years were a joke.

Larry Bird was a decent coach? I missed that. C'mon Jared, he coached three years, won almost 150 games and was in the Eastern Conference Finals every year. No, it wasn't a long coaching career but I would grade it well. Issel was a great player, but only coached for a few years, only making the playoffs once. Yes, I probably should have left Issel off that list but being from Kentucky I couldn't help including him somehow. I would have to check his coaching record to refresh my memory but I only recall the one decent season when they upset the Sonics. Fav-ruh is not that guy. He doesn't have the patience to coach. I'm not sure about that. I don't see him being a QB coach in the NFL but I easily picture him working the college sidelines as an assistant somewhere just for something to do in retirement. Personally, Favre leaving Green Bay is bittersweet to me. There's nothing like watching him work on a football field but as a Bears fan I'm glad he's taken his butt somewhere else.

I'm 99% a non-superstitious guy, but does anyone else believe in the Madden Curse? I love believing in it, it's just a very interesting observation. And guess who's on the cover of Madden 09? Hint: He acts as Brett Favre in a soap opera. For those of you who don't know what the Madden Curse is, here's a great article explaining and analyzing it: http://randomnessblog.com/2008/08/12/analyzing-the-madden-curse-is-it-real/
