I haven't been able to find any info on the boards, or the net, about using Finale specifically for writing Drum and Percussion related music. And since this is a drummers forum, I think it would be appropriate and educational to have a topic concerning this specifically. I know I have my fair share of questions and I'm sure others do as well.

Using Finale specifically? Or in general using a notation program, like Sibelius?

Since notation programs are used for composing and arranging, how 'bout posting your questions in the Composing/Arranging forum?

I forgot about that; not everyone uses Finale. In that case, I guess we would need to see what is the predominate medium used for writing percussion music on these forums and tailor the topic appropriately.

I don't personally think it should be a general use topic, there are other places for general discussion, though I haven't been able to find any. What we need is a topic specific to drums and percussion. Based on what my searches of the forums turned up, not many people are posting questions about notating drum music.

I use Finale to write drumline oriented music mostly, occasionally a solo mallet piece or mallet ensemble piece, but mostly drumline. It would be very beneficially to have questions concerning things of that nature in one easy place. Need to know how to notate a fivelet? Need to know how to put in stickings? Need to know how to make accents work? Those are just a few questions I've had or still have and I'm sure other people have similar or completely different questions.

So, you can ask those questions in the Composing/Arranging forums. If you look there, you will find numerous questions regarding Finale and Sibelius.

You probably didn't find many people asking about notating because no two people notate their music the same. You'll find all kinds of questions regarding usage, how to make it work with sound libraries, etc. in the COMPOSING/ARRANGING forums.

Thread closed!!!

(thank you, drive through)
