I havn't seen them, but personally I would try and stay shy for a while. They just started creating these drums recently (To my knowledge) and not very many people use them. Though they are in the same price range as the other brands. (Yamaha, Pearl, Dynasty, Ect.) As with most new products though, they are bound to have bugs, and little things. Thats why products are always being updated and redesigned. I'm sure mapex combs them over well, but who knows, maybe the new product will have a problem. Ex. A weak joint system. If your going to spend the money, I would probably go with the Dynasty set, simply because of the cradle, It seems pretty solid and it is a great idea. Just my $0.02 though.

just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

i marched mapex quads with jersey surf this summer and i think they sound great. mapex drums are designed exactly like Pearl drums and they sound very alike. our quad tech liked to tune the tenors similar to SCV tuning (sort of low pitched...but not too much) and the drums would just singgg smile

the only problem we hand with them were the spok drums comming lose from the frame. our spoks were attached by one single knob (it looked kinda like a drum key) and the thing would always come lose.

but i would def recommend buying a set.

Phenominal sounding drums. Slightly heavy, but very durable, great sound for tenors, which actually project??? WHAT?!?!?! I wouldnt be able to complain, and if you have any, just nicely call the Mapex people and they ALWAYS will help you out for CHEAP or FREE.

That's an XL rail issue - Mapex uses XL tom rails - we have the same problem with ours.
