Hey there is this new guy on my line that has been coming up with these pretty cool visuals using the drum and the carriers. I was just wondering if any of you guys use the carriers for visuals. (like playing on them and other stuff) I think he got it from some "High Stepping" band that he saw one time.

We had some stuff in our show where we like played on the outside edges of the rims, but other than that we dont really use any other parts of the drum.

What kind of visuals does he do with the carriers? Could you go into detail about any of them?

Like on of them was the following: right flam; hit the left stick on the top with the right stick; spin the left stick out a foot left while hitting the left bar of the T-bar carrier; come back and hit the left stick on top with the right stick; hit the middle bar and the right bar of the T-bar carrier; then hit the top of the left sticks; the once again spin the left stick out a foot while doing 2 eight notes on the snare; and on the second eight note come down with the left stick and hit the head with a left hand flam. I don't know if anyone will be able to understand that, but it is a little weird to explain. It looks pretty cool though. That is actually one of the ones I made. It was my visual using the carrier. He gave me his approval for it when I showed it to him today.

If you are talking to me I could take some pics and post it up here, but it would look really ghetto and stupid. My snare is at school and all I have is either a drum set snare or a practice pad. So it would sort of look like I was going retarded and hitting my shoulders. I will try to take some pics and post them back sometime today. Just to warn you ahead of time that I don't have my snare with me, and I'm not a retard. Not that being retarded is anything to make fun of.

Yeah PMsnare, it really does look cool when the whole line does it. But it also looks really dumb when it is messy. For any type of visual, you should put it before an audience until it is perfect. That one I posted it really easy, so you should have no problem with it. Have fun with it and tell me what you carrier visual is when you make it.

IN one of our cadences we have a basic backsticking paradiddlediddle pattern. The short verrsion of explaing is we do a right backstick, left backstick, and then hit our carriers. It is pretty cool. But without carriers you do look retarded.

I wanna do the thing Naoki did for his BLAST solo for all those who saw his performance. That was so cool. He was doing single stroke rolls and his vest all the way up to his neck. It was crazy cool!

During a couple of our performances we would pop our tenors up on an accent by leaning back really quickly and they will stay there until we use them again. That's about the extent of our tenor tricks. The Snare hide a pair of black sticks on the harness then throw the White pair as high as they can into the air in a wave then tear the Black sticks off the harnesses. if you call that a harness trick

Naoki? Nick Angelis? Yes his solo is nasty. It is more or less his 92 DCI individual "train wreck" pumped up a bit. Good luck trying to get those backsticking paterns up to speed.

Naoki was the cat that did Blast for the tour that came to New Orleans. Crazy!

I don't even try to Nick's solo. Holy crap...it would just make me feel like a complete failure.

Well there's a first time for failure in Nick's solo. If you want to be challenged then you need to try your impossible. Trust me things are not impossible.

I'll try it in two years, giving me time to build my chops, and get back to you.
