ok, so get this, there is this guy comin up to tenors next year, and he is guarenteed a spot. the only problem is... he isnt that good. sure, his diddles are decent, and his technique is, uh, interesting, but his form and movement are pulling him down.
his diddles have gotten better since last year, but his movement and rythm from drum to drum are crap. he cant read music very well, and he is, im sorry to say, a slow learner. i dont know what to do about this, since he IS guarenteed a spot next year. now, if i talk to the director, i know he'll give the guy some lessons, and he probably wont let him have the spot. now he has been wanting to play tenors for two years, and finally he has the shot, and i dont wanna hold him down, but i also dont want only ONE tenor next year. get it? so what should i do. think i should give the kid some lessons myself? <img src="/threads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Please use descriptive titles that have something to do with the topic of the thread; this lets members know what the discussion is about before they open the page . Now, whenever the opportunity presents itself, and someone is willing to learn, I always say teach them yourself if you have to. I almost didn't get to play tenors at all because the line was so small and someone had taken my spot on them (in middle school) during my 8th grade year while I was at another school. If nothing else you will have someone to jam with, and having skilled players on the line is always good. When I was a freshman, there really wasn't a structured drumline program, so we would all head either to the school or someone's house with drums and practice during the weekend.
