The pit was ridiculously small my freshman year and was only freshman - it was just me on marimba, someone on vibes and someone on timpani. We gained three more people my sophomore year, though - a drumset player (who dropped out after that year), a vibes player and a marimba player and then an auxiliary player this year.

So...we have 6 people now in pit I guess, which is about average, right?

Well our pit seems to be traditionally small. We have a mid-sized marching part, but we always only have 3 or 4 people on pit.

Can't wait to see the pit sizes coming out this year in 2008 for DCI. Should be interesting

It's hard to see but there is a marimba, 2 vibes, xylophone and two sets of bells.

(Oh and that's a 450 member band)

Well, technically we don't really have a pit because none of our drumline marches, and like you we switch instruments between songs, but we do have 3 marimbas, 3 xylophones, 2 vibraphones, a glock, and chimes. Then we have timpani, gong/concert bass drum, some suspended cymbals, 2-3 drumsets, keyboards, and electric bass and electric guitar. Altogether our drumline has about 25 people, with about 6 or 7 of those people on snare or tenors.

Last year (07) we had a total of 10 percussionists. Our band had something like 85 members, guard included. In the first half of our show, 6 marched and 4 played pit. In the second half of our show, everyone played in pit. We had:

2 marimbas,
1 xylo,
1 vibes,
1 bells,
1 chimes,
1 rack,
1 concert bass,
1 set of timpani
and 1 bass guitar.

Hooray for small front ensembles!

We had our first day of mini percussion camp today. Currently, we have four members in our pit. Hopefully we'll have more show up within the next week.

Almost everybody in the battery is freaking out about the pit and how small it is, but I think we can make it work. You gotta have faith!

Our pit from the 2007-08 winter drumline season had 10 in the pit.

We had Three Marimbas ( one person for each) 3 Vibes,2 in Aux. 1 drum set player and 1 bass guitar player.
we were going to have 2 drum set players which would of been very cool but one had to take care of family matters and was unable to do it.

Over all I think it was a good size.
