Marching season because I don't know all the drumline season ones-
My freshman year:3
Sophmore:about 7
Junior: I don't know. I wasn't in it my junior year.
Senior: we had 10 then one person got kicked out in the middle of the season so is went down to 9.
For drumline this year we have about 11 or 12.

We had 9 in our pit at the end of the season (we started with like 14 but once they figured out they were actually going to have to work they started dropping like flies) and it was a good number b/c we usally all got along. The bigger your pit is the more sound, also the harder to get all in time and in time with the band. It depends on how big your band is and how much pit sound you want...there is no ideal number.

Last year we had 10:

1 Timpanist
6 Marimbas (3 marimbas x 2 people each)
2 Vibes
1 Xylo./Bells
1 Aux. (Doubled as one of the marimba players)

Next year, if all prospective members stay in, we'll have 11. Our drumline will stay more-or-less the same as well, but the band is multiplying like rabbits. My freshman year we had around 125, last year 180, & this year 220.

Our pit had 15 last year and maybe 20 this year if nobody quits because they didn't make the battery.

We had 6 in the pit this year. Hopefully we'll have more next year because our band is pretty big.

We had a very large pit. We had 4 people on marimbas, 2 vibraphones, 2 xylophones, , 2 concert bass drums, 1 tympanist, 1 keybord, 4 auxilary (triangle, tamborine, surdo drums, stuff like that). Our pit was much too large last year. This year, ours will be much smaller.
