Man, my director is the biggest b***H in the world...to me anyways. She doesn't like it when I practice by myself afterschool, and everytime I do she says, "well, thats fine but if you break a head during this your paying for the new one." Man that pisses me off, but I know that I'm not paying for a new head for PRACTICING...something the rest of my line should think about doing.
------------------
Jerek
PCN Drumline
OSU Drumline

That sucks about your director. I can see if you break a head horsing around or something, but practicing? That just really sucks. She should encourage people to practice, not threaten them when they do.
------------------
Webmaster, Drumlines.org
AIM: Drumlines

Hey, I was curious - here's a question for all of you Vic Firth MT1A mallet users: After playing the mallet for more than a month or so, do yours crack at the bottom of the handle molding, allowing the grip surface to slide up and down the mallet? If this is an intrinsic problem, why hasn't Vic Firth come out with a more durable gripping surface? Just wondering... yep...MT1As have had that problem for as long as I have known anything about them. As far as why they dont fix it..who knows. Of course if you ask that you can also get into question like...why do Pro-mark sticks continue to suck?...and why doesnt Premier buy back all their tenors and start a second eternal flame?
any others to add?

ok, about the practicing thing... i dont really practice, but i like to noodle around and play some things to build my chops, and even it were the show music my director would be pissed, its freakin annoying cuz hes like "this isnt the time and place to practice, rehearsal is the time" and like after a rehearsal, if he 'finishes early' and the pit wants to do a final run through to make sure we remember everything, he'll say "no, this is a rest for your brain as well as your ears" how freaking STUPID is that? grrr i get pissed off just thinking about my director. oh well, moving on...
i use mt1a's and i experience the same grip problem. but i dont see a big problem in it, sometime if they are broken in enough, hold the mallet by the head and flick the rubber part off, its fun to hit people with em, they hurt too. also, to fix it you can put tape underneath the rubber grip and the friction between the two usually keep each other in place until the grip stretches, or splits(ive played with 3 pairs of these mallets, only one of the 6 mallets actually split in the grip almost halfway up)

oh yea, add remo drums to the pile of 'suckage' along with those plastic spoon and fork things, i call em "sporks" they suck as well.
------------------
-Kevin
NHS Percussion
www.drumlines.org/nhsdrums
punk@drumlines.org
[This message has been edited by kevin_nhs (edited 10-25-2000).]

Kevin. . .no way man. Sporks rule!!! Monkey man uses sporks all the time. He uses them to scoop out his bananas and eat them. But he calls them Foons, not Sporks.

------------------
Webmaster, Drumlines.org
AIM: Drumlines
[This message has been edited by Webmaster (edited 10-26-2000).]
