Ok, here it is. For all you tenor players out there (or tenor player wanna-be's....*coughCheechcough :P), here's a lil poll for ya...
Which tenor line do you think had the best break? Give me the corps name and a year...
I haven't seen many corps vids, but out of the ones I've seen, I like '94 Cadets. I have a copy of that solo, but I can't play at the tempo that they did. It's flying!
Ok, ok...if you have more than one....I guess...you can put more than one....
I also like (:P) a Cavies solo....I can't remember which year tho....I think it was '00, but for some reason, I'm doubting myself...I don't know. But there's mine! Now let's hear yours!
Oh, man! How could I forget this one! '94 Madison! I love that solo! But if you watch closely, the 3rd tenor from the left looses grip of his stick and almost drops it. Well, I guess you don't have to watch closely, it's pretty visible. hehe
[color:"#800080" SIZE="1"][ 06-28-2001 03:23 PM: Message edited 1 time, lastly by tenors_rule ]

dude....That UNT solo is the craziest thing I have seen a whole line play. I have a video of it and the first time I saw it I about dropped the drink I was holding. Anyway, back to topic.
VK 94...7 tenors and oh so clean
95 BD Caribe
94 Cadets...one of the first major solos with lots of scrapes
98 Cadets...I have music to this if anyone wants it
99 Glassmen...not as well known as the other ones...but still some good licks (maybe not one of the best of all time..but oh well)...I have music to this too
00 Cavies...really cool
and one last one...not DCI, but all DCI players
01 MCM...WGI champs throwin down

thats funny you said that, cuz the first time i saw it, i dropped the remote( trying to rewind )
i forgot about BD 95 caribe
and 98 cadets,
i can go along with G-men 99 too
how about BD 99, i think they were kind of underated, but they had one of the hardests quad books i ever seen.
on more added maybe not for solo during the field show but for I&E
92 SCV tenor ensemble
drumholio i wouldn't mind getting my hands on the 98 Cadet stuff or the G-men stuff.
thats if you don't mind.
[color:"#800080" SIZE="1"][ 06-29-2001 03:27 AM: Message edited 1 time, lastly by multi-Thomm ]

Multi thomm-- I can give you da hook up man...do you want me to just send it to the email addy that you have listed on the site or some other one. The cadets I can send right away, the Gmen one might take me awhile...It is on my old computers harddrive and I have to hook it up as a slave to my new one to get it off...anyway, let me know where to send it
Also, I started to mention the 99 BD one but then forgot I guess. That was a really talented tenor line and had some really cool visuals too...the Tarzan one is classic

Hey Drumholio, do you mean the one where BD did the crossing tenor solo. Cause that is by far my fav no contest. Plus have you guys seen a peice by Matt Savage called Tito's Tree House. Man that isn't all that hard but it is so awesome.
Remember to go to my site and look at the new format!!!!!
www.percussionunlimited.8k.com

JHS...I am not sure what you mean by crossing, but I think you might mean the solo where they did the behind the back thing while running sideways...if so, that was in 96. Decent solo but not really that memorable...they had some other licks in that show that I liked a whole lot better.

i think thats the viz that they "beat their breasts" so to speak, the one after that is a classic too.
that would be great drumholio, i don't know if that e-mail is right so i put it on the bottom of this page, i'm kind in that high you get right after a drum corps show, i just got back from the philly YEA thing, man BD is the sh_t this year, Cavies held their ground as well. Cadets ......anyway
i would have to add BD 2001 to the list.
i think you will too, when( if you haven't already) you see them as well.

perc25@hotmail.com
[color:"#800080" SIZE="1"][ 06-30-2001 05:59 AM: Message edited 2 times, lastly by multi-Thomm ]

I think any tenor solo where they put them on stands and play like the 2000 Cadets are just bad. Don't get me wrong...they played it good...i just dispise stuff like that. (That's what I like to call cheeze!)

Yea, that kind of solo is like timeless. Everytime I watch my 2000 tape I always rewind it like three times.

slight correction....the Cadets solo that really started all of the sweeps/scrapes/crossovers thing was 93 not 94. They were both very good solos.
Also, no solos I saw this year really stood out to me. They were good of course but nothing great. For sheer speed and sweeps I have to give to BK's tenor line.

they actually had two different versions this year, the first and the best was just straight playing no flash and it was pretty good, they changed right around the recording of thier cd, and added the behind the back crap, soon after tour started they cut it due to the fact it did not line up with the horns in moondance.
i thought it was a bad move cuz i always look forward to Cadets tenor solo, to me its the most entertaining part of their show, still not seeing why they won high drums

Let me ask one question though, could any of you guys hear the percussion though out the entire show. If you could then damn you got some good ears but my point is that if you couldn't then you really can't tell who played more meat. Like last year the snare feature on the Cavies show was flashy but pretty simple, IMO, but I know that the Cavies do put <s>snugglebunny</s> [color:"red"]a lot of meat in their shows but they have to hold back so as too not over power the horns. What I'm saying is that all of the Div. 1 corps are bad a$$ (especially the top 5) and at the level they are at it is really hard to tell who is the best like 99.9% of the time. I think its just better to watch them and just enjoy the show and not worry too much about the scores.

ok here is the deal, Cadets have their spring traing camp 10 minutes from my house, i stop there on the way back from my practice, i've seen and heard the music with out the horns.
i've watched Cavies run their drum book in the lot at semi finals with out the horns,
and i watched Bd warm up at east, which included a run through of music without horns.
so i've heard the drum books of all three, and i can tell you Cadets was the weaker of the three.
i'm not a judge but i think just cuz your clean doesn't mean you should walk away with the big prize, now i was there on finals night. but i was not in front of those lines. obviously Cadets had something the others didn't, i would like to know what it was. it can't be that they were just clean.
don't get my wrong i'm glad they got high drums, its been a long time coming. but in my opinion this year was not the year, i would have rather seen them won in 93,94,95 or even 98. those years had some interesting stuff going on. but hey like i stated before its just my opinion.

Hey Drumholio, can i get that music too? Thanks. My Fave solos are: '98 Cadets (how was it that clean?) Even though it was easy i thought the Cavies thing with the cymbals this year was cool. non-corp would have to be '99 WGI Dartmouth and Ponderosa. Oh yea, this years BD was tight. Can anyone tell me where i can get a tape of that UNT solo? Also Tarheel Suns "Ram" last year is the shiznit. Planet Chops has the music
Planet Chops
[color:"#800080" SIZE="1"][ 09-19-2001 11:13 PM: Message edited 1 time, lastly by Jeremydrum ]

Cadets 94 eh? I'd like to see a copy of that or a video somewhere to see if i could pull it off. I'm not into keeping track of drumcorps.

Bill Bachman was indeed in the 96 Tenor line. I am not exactly sure who the captain was bu the center player was Anooj Thakker...ridiculous hands.

Quienmanda, I can send you that 94 cadets solo if you want.

I definitely Have to Say the one in Malaguena of the Scout's 2000 show, "A Drum Corps Fan's Dream Part Dos" It's a small duet with a marimba player in the middle of a fast paced Latin song. It's insane. Hands down it's the best written to fit a song's theme.
