What are some Pipe Band rudaments that aren't really used in western drumming? I'd like to incorporate some into a new piece I'm writing.

dead sticks / crush drags

buzzed 7 stroke rolls for 8th notes
buzzed 11 stroke rolls for quarter notes

mills (2nd inversion paradiddles)
flammed mills (RHF R L R

continuous buzz rolls with accents

extended single phrases with "hiccups" -- for example, a 32nd note single phrase with accents, with a 16th note thrown in the middle of the phrase

i compete in a pipe band and if you would like i could scan and send the rudiment book that we use and it teaches you all of the rudiments and rolls that scottish drumming uses but american doesn't use.

yes i could, the book i use is "Taking No Short Cuts" by J. Reid Maxwell probably the best snare drummer in the world, both scottish and anything else, so i will work on getting that to you.

He is a good drummer but I definetly wouldn't go that far.

If you use this packet then make sure that you have someone with a scot. background to explain it to you. His interpretation of musical notation is a little suspect to say the least. (Ex 11 stroke rolls)
