I have to agree with LEHS here...there is no reason in the world to play a double stroke roll without your pinkie on the stick...it is obnoxious to see someone playing this way, and in no way does it look professional...just my opinion...

I personally don't like it, like for myself, and I try not to do it, but every once in a while it does happen. And I'm not offended if anyone does it. I will tell them to try to keep it on, but I don't care if they do. I noticed a lot of people in the I&E vids, epecially one of the quad players from SCV in 04, take their pinkys off....obviously, if they are in corps, its not that big of a deal. Just my opinion here!

Ok...I'd hate to bust your bubble, but I know for a fact that there are no drum corps that teach people to play incorrectly...meaning with their pinkies off of the sticks...but heh, what do I know...

The pinky thing is my number one pet peeve. I think it makes a drummer look weak and not in control. I always tell my line "we're not having tea with the Queen of England here". Over the years I've learned just how much an effect it has on sound quality. Funny thing is my 6 year old niece picked up a pair of my sticks today for the first time and no tea-time pinky there.

There is nothing worse than a pinkyless roll...it looks so unorganized and non-skillful...I just strongly feel that there is no need to the pinky to NOT be on the stick...PERIOD...

Without my pinky on the stick, it feels like I'm losing control. The stick just feels more comfortable to me with all my fingers on, plus it definitely helps roll quality, no doubt.
