What do you think is the hardest thing to learn on the snare drum?

There's nothing truly hard to learn on snare if you have the time and patience to discipline yourself and learn everything that you can. Never limit yourself to what you can do and always strive for perfection.

For me the hardest thing about snare playing was getting my left hand technique down really good. I started playing snare my senior year after I had been doing tenors for 2 years before that so I really had to work hard to get it right. There was a lot of blistering, and a lot of pain, but it was well worth it in the end because at one of our shows the judges commented on what great technique our snare line had!

Those who say you can play anything with practice and dedication obviously haven't heard of John Stump's Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz.

For me the hardest thing about snare wasn't the playing part, it was more the marching part. I would find myself not being in time on really easy exercises. right now I am still working on fixing those problems.
The playing part wasn't that hard. Learning the grip gave me a blister, and caused some bad pain, but is required for the muscle memory. Now it doesn't hurt.
The music shouldn't be too hard to learn, just rythmns, I mean it is not like tenors where you have to worry about different drums too.
But anyway that is my 2 cents.

I have the same problem when school starts since I don't march during the summer.

Just so you know, the thread was about snare playing. And in any case, practice does make perfect. Anyways, continue practicing and work on technique. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

yea I agree with u guys about marching being one of the hardest parts. Usually in practice I get yelled at for not being in time, but I'm working on it. And I also had trouble with my left hand at first, but practice makes perfect and now i got it down. everyone has their own "hardest part" but with determination and practice, anything can happen.
