Almost 6 pages of response, knock yourself out!
EDIT: After reading the first few pages of the thread I said, it's not very helpful. So, I'm just gonna say: normal electrical tape works. Thats what I use.

Yeah, I edited.... I read some of it, and thought it'd be helpful, but turns out not even close.

3M tape is the best for sticks. You can find it at most hardware stores.

Plain old electrical tape. I only put it on the top half of the stick though (anti-rimshot) because I don't like the feel.

you want 3m electrical tape. it is avalible at any hardware store.
here is what it looks like.

most of the senior members of this site will say this is the way to go.

[edit] and that other thread that was posted earlier does deal with what type of tpe. its toward the back of the thread but it's in there.

3M tape is widely used the most. If you want to put on a show, use athletic tape, spray paint them a bright color, buy black lights, and play.

depends on your point of view. imo, stick tape helps keep the line looking uniform, and if the right tape, and right technique is used to tape them, it will help the sticks last longer. for my practice sticks, i have multiple layers, for added weight, for more muscle building.

Everyone in the drumline tapes their entire stick with white 3m electrical tape. This makes all the sticks look uniform from the stands, even if someone is playing with old, beat-up sticks. I mean, not everyone can afford brand new sticks for each performance.

yea we use just plain old electrical tape too. since our school colors are red and black, on some games we'd tape them with red electrical tape, and others black.

only one question i mean our drums r black... the question is why do visuals if the stick is gonna have black tape ... all of our shows are pretty muck at night time... we go all the way white...(3m)

Yeah, I just use white electrical tape. Not only does it make the stick stand out in the dark, it also makes the stick last longer, IMO.

Yea dude, if you want the long lasting stick tape just go with what everyone has been saying. The 3M white electrical tape is the way to go (as explained earlier).

Dude, just get any electrical tape. Dont worry if it doesnt say 3M inside. 3M is a manufacturer, its all pretty much the same.

I have not found another manufacturer's electrical tape that adheres better or is tougher than 3M's products. Most other brand's tape start sliding around after a few weeks. The 3M tape does not move once it is on.

Well, perhaps I have been lucky. I have used ACE Harware's branded tape without problems. I suppose it is possible that it is made by 3M, have to check that out.

3M white electric/plastic tape is my favorite, but any electric tape works really. I would not suggest using black, however, because in my experiences it tends to leave a nasty black residue when you re-tape the stick (or just take the tape off). It is quite disgusting. Plus the black tape sometimes leaves gunk on the rims when doing shots or rim work. That's my experience anyway. I hope I was helpful.

Those are some nice sticks, and the taping was done very well. Are those your band colors?
