I think it'd be really cool to have a DLO-Hosted cadence competition. Members of DLO could write cadences, and enter them in a competition, which could be judged by staff and moderators.

The idea is simple: The cadences would be judged on sound (for those who couldn't create sound, someone who has a soundfont such as VDL and is willing to could enter these cadences into the soundfont), writing ability, realisticness (is that even a word?), etc, etc, etc.

I know it's a simple idea, but I honestly think this could be a very cool little competition.

I know there are probably several reasons that I'm not thinking of which will make this unlikely, but, ah, oh well.

Thoughts?

Probably not, unless people were motivated enough to make their own groups and kept their commitment. As experienced by DLOFDC, people tend to show interest and sign up, but then get busy with real life or just flake out on the commitment when it comes time for doing their part. I know that's not fair to say of all of our users, but it applies to enough people that would put a damper on that.

Again, I'm considering organizing something, but it'll have to wait until the DCI season is over.

I agree, Kevin, it would be a hassle. But like you said, technology has advanced in the composing industry in the past year are 2, and it seems like just about every composer on this board uses some sort of Finale or Sibelius. Like I said, for those who lack the osundfonts, there would need to be people for this who willingly volunteer to take the job of entering in the cadences. However, if you go to the search and dig up my soundfont poll I made in the Composing/Arranging Forum, most people here use some type of soundfont. So, maybe it wouldn't be that bad.

Who knows? Guess we'll have to wait until after DCI to see what you decide.

I say that we simply eliminate it down to only accepting a couple of formats. If you don't submit in the format, fine, you don't get in until you put it in the format. If somebody doesn't know how to change it, I'm sure theres people out there that would be willing to help out.

If I organized it, I think I'd only accept Finale formats.

Anyways, save the discussion for later, when this idea could possibly take off (once again).

Til then...closing.
