Mouse Pads?

Hey guys, is it okay to use mouse pads in place of other pads? I figured it might be but I wanted to make sure. I checked several posts back and could not find anything so I went ahead and posted.

I've used a mouse pad before. It works pretty good but like he said don't use it for long stuff like show music or something.

I've used one before, but I wouldn't use it longterm either. I'd rather use something meant to be more realistic.

Our band program starts out using mouse pads. In fact, we use them for about the first semester of beginning band and then upgrade to either an actual drum or better pad.

I don't really like a mousepad. It doesn't give an accurate rebound, so I guess it does build chops. But I've found that while it gives that poor rebound, it also doesn't protect you from feeling the solid nature of your desk or dresser. It has always ended up hurting my wrists when I've finished playing.
