Yeah our director is like that only on monday mornings after a long weekend but he is only 24 and just got out of college so you cant really expect more from him. But when it comes to percussion he somewhat knows what he is doing I guess you would say. This year was his first year to actully have his own line so......

This not acceptable just because he is 24!! That's no excuse for showing up in that condition.

If you're getting drunk on Sunday night, chances are you're a pretty big tool.

Its even worst when he knows that he has to come in and teach the next day and he still goes and partys on thursday nights. Our School District isn't bringing him back next year.

There should not be any drunk instructors. If instuctors come in to work drunk, they usually get fired. That instructor failed at doing his job because of his drinking. That director should have been gone no matter what the situation. Showing up yo work drunk is no where near professional. I'm going to be a instructor someday, and I have to know my stuff, act professional, and enjoy doing my job. Instructing music is an example of advancing music in America.

There should be other instructor can do better, much better than your drunk instructor can do. what did he teach you? drunken fist paradiddle? p.l.e.a.s.e.!!
talk to your BD about this situation.

Yeah we had an instructor come all of band camp and was with us for 2 weeks straight, then he decided not to come to any competitions/games/practices after that and he never taught us any cadences and promised us tons of breaks and sweet licks in the song and never did that, so my band director payed him absolutely nothing, and it was great.

if he's a drunk, he doesn't need to be infront of any drumline.period. go to your school administration if your BD woln't do anything, and get him FIRED, don't rebel, then you'll just get in trouble, probably has something about that in your student handbook (least my school does). Go to the school administration and leave it in their hands this way you stay in school (and rehersal) and your drunk instructor is gone. it may be a bad thing that he might loose his job, but a drunk instructor doesn't even need to be on the school campus.

Wow, there are some extremely immature posts from people with "high rank" on this board! What exactly is that rank for if you post things like that?

My advice as a band director:

A. You are a student, act like one and talk to the people who run the show and be able to prove what you say. Band director(s), principal(s), and superintendent(s) are good options, but understand that you will need to be as mature as possible to be understood and taken seriously.

B. Do your job in the band program, listen to the instruction you ARE being given and play you music and marcch your drill. Wanting something better does not mean you destroy what you have! Be positive through this process, it may get ugly.

C. Look around on the internet and gather instructional information from places like vicfirth.com, innvativepercussion.com, etc. There are so many sources of information out there, take advantage of them!
